Congratulations to Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) Human Resources and Learning & Development Team on winning ‘Team of the Year’ at the annual Northern Ireland Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development Awards (CIPD NI) held recently in Belfast.
NIFRS won the award for its recent Wholetime Firefighter recruitment campaign. This was the first recruitment of Wholetime Firefighters since 2011 and it was a huge undertaking for NIFRS which required a collective team effort across the organisation.
The Wholetime Firefighter recruitment campaign was launched in early 2017. It attracted almost 5,000 applications and exceeded the target for female applicants. The first intake of Wholetime Firefighters, 25 men and 2 women, graduated on 19 April 2018. The second group of Trainees currently undergoing intensive training are due to graduate in June 2018.
Chief Fire & Rescue Officer Gary Thompson said:
“Congratulations and thanks to our HR and Learning & Development Teams. This award win is a testament to their dedication and professionalism in the delivery of this challenging recruitment campaign. Our Wholetime Firefighter recruitment campaign represented a huge step forward in sustaining our Service for the future”.
