UK Fire and International Fire Fighter magazines recently teamed up with Energizer to put a range of torches on trial within UK fire and rescue services.
Energizer 2AA PivotPlus Light
A new twist on a versatile favourite – the Energizer 2AA PivotPlus Light pivots 175º to deliver the perfect light every time. This pivoting head flashlight is ideal for any demanding role.
For the most challenging tasks, look no further than the Energizer Hard Case PivotPlus.
The main feature of this torch is the pivoting head which can be rotated within a 175° angle so that you can aim the light just where you need it the most. A magnetic base allows it to be attached to a metal surface for hands-free lighting and more versatility when working on a task.
A maximum output of 300 lumens is possible and the light can also be dimmed right down to 30 lumens by holding down the button with the light already on so you can get the optimum output for the job. The lens is textured to provide a smooth wide beam, enabling you to easily see larger areas.
Constructed with professionals in mind, this torch is built from rugged ABS plastic, and it withstands drop after drop, off a ladder or even a two-storey building with a 7m drop resistance rating. In addition, this light is water resistant for user confidence even during outdoor tasks.
High: 300 lumens; 5 hours run-time; 30m beam range
Low: 30 lumens; 30 hours run-time; 10m beam range

Pete said: ‘Working in a fire and rescue service covering urban and rural areas, the need for a reliable torch is vitally important. As part of the ‘on call’ team I get called out to deal with breakdowns and repairs in the middle of the night and I need a torch that I can rely on.
‘Having a torch which is lightweight and easy to carry is a huge benefit. The ability to attach the torch to metal surfaces via the magnetic base allows me to use both hands to best effect. The swivel head allows the beam to be directed to exactly where it is required.
‘The Energizer 2AA PivotPlus Light does everything I want a torch to do, and my fellow mechanics are all hoping that they will be issued with one!’

Alan said: ‘Working in a fire and rescue service covering urban and rural areas, the need for a reliable torch is vitally important. I get called out to incidents in the middle of the night and turn up in my personal response vehicle which is often parked some way away from the incident and I need a torch that won’t let me down.

Marcus is a firefighter with eight years’ experience and works on a busy urban fire station with one engine, an aerial ladder platform and a water carrier.
He said: ‘It was great to be asked to take part in this trial, the watch regularly see International Fire magazine and I have read many torch articles before.
‘Because the Energizer Intrinsically Safe 2D LED Torch is intrinsically safe we can use it for normal shouts and also when we have to wear breathing apparatus. The torches we use now with our breathing apparatus are big and bulky and often get in the way. The Energizer Intrinsically Safe 2D LED Torch is so light it makes it so much easier to use and clips securely on the shoulder strap of the set.’
The team at UK Fire and International Fire Fighter want to thank those involved with the evaluations for their enthusiasm and for giving all the products a full and thorough trial.
