Hainsworth – Innovation, Quality, Heritage and Passion

It has been a busy few months at Hainsworth.

Our protective-fabrics team has achieved a number of notable successes in combination with our various industry partners in the UK and globally.

We have recently won important contracts in Australia (our first ever gloves order for TITAN 1260 and an order for wildland garments using ECO-DRY Shield), Sweden (firefighter garments incorporating TITAN 1220) and France (station wear with ECO-DRY Shield).

These European and international wins follow our success last year in being selected as a preferred partner for the prestigious Central PPE and Clothing Contract (CPCC) and the Collaborative Procurement Framework.

We are also continuing to build our presence in a number of other global markets including the Middle East and South America.

Our TITAN products have stood the test of time and continue to prove themselves on the front line. Firefighters with London Fire Brigade were protected by our TITAN fabric when tackling the appalling fire at Grenfell Tower last year.

Thankfully, fires on this scale are extremely rare, but when they happen, firefighters need to have complete faith in the protective garments they are wearing.

In the case of Grenfell, firefighters were confronted by an extreme environment for a sustained period of time with a very high risk of heat stress.

Everything we do at Hainsworth Technology is underpinned by four key principles.

The first is innovation – we are unique in having our very own on-site UKAS accredited laboratory. Every Hainsworth product is subjected to the most stringent levels of testing and each fabric is influenced by the different environments in which firefighters find themselves around the world.

We pride ourselves on our ability to react quickly to changing market needs, the detailed approach we take to the innovation process and the speed with which we can bring new products to market.

Our heritage is also hugely important to our customers, industry partners and the highly skilled Hainsworth team. Our fabric products have been protecting firefighters for well over 100 years. Alongside this, Hainsworth has played a leading role in the development of industry standards both within Europe and internationally over more than 30 years.

We also believe in the importance of quality without compromise, whether this is in terms of durability and longer garment lifetime, breathability or ability to combat the risk of heat stress. One solution does not fit all. This is where our global reach and understanding of the different markets around the world combines to continually inform our new product development work. We are excited about plans to bring a number of new products to the market later this year.

Those responsible for the procurement of PPE are looking for a holistic approach from companies such as Hainsworth, which designs its fabrics with a complete understanding of how they interact with the various layers in the system. Serious consideration is given to each layer to ensure that it is providing the highest levels of performance.

We are also passionate about what we do and why we do it. Everyone at Hainsworth believes passionately in the fire service and the integral and enduring role it plays in our communities.

Last year, Hainsworth saw growth of over 40% in our Protectives business and we are forecasting the same or more in the current financial year.

We continue to strengthen our team, and Richard Gorst has joined as Sales Director for Protective Fabrics with responsibility for the UK, Scandinavia and Canada.

Richard brings with him a wealth of knowledge and experience, having completed 25 years in a range of senior roles with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service. He was Head of Service Delivery (Cheshire West and Chester) when he left the service in 2014.

We have always believed strongly in the importance of having a close relationship with the end users of our fabrics, listening to them and responding to their feedback. Richard’s presence on our team has already further enhanced this relationship.

We are also reinvesting at all levels of our family company – our history dates back over 230 years – from hardware and software to people and the environment in which they work.

The UK continues to lead the way in firefighter PPE, and we are proud of the role we have played over more than a century in helping to ensure that our firefighters and other emergency personnel are able to return home safely to their families and loved ones at the end of every shift.
