What do we mean when we talk about sustainability? At Life Kitchens we believe sustainability means meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. In addition to natural resources, we also need social and economic resources – sustainability is not just environmentalism. Looking to tomorrow is the right thing to do. However, there is more to it than that. There are many drivers for sustainable development: legislation, Government policies and strategies, financial benefits, and risk management, alongside the clear moral imperative. We recognise the importance of climate change as we continuously invest in innovation and low-carbon technologies, and our goal is to have net zero emissions by 2030 complying with the UNFCCC Paris agreement, working with partners such as Neolith, the industry pioneers in stone materials, Neolith stone is one of the most sustainable and environmentally friendly materials on the Market. The only materials we use in the production of our kitchens are steel, stone and glass, all clean, durable and recyclable materials. From cradle to grave all materials used for life kitchens can be reused, remanufactured and recycled back into production after end-of-life use. We use no wood at all. Cutting down trees severely affects habitats, which can eventually lead to extinction of vulnerable species. Reducing waste and recycling conserves natural resources, protects natural ecosystems and encourages biological diversity, all of which enhance the long-run sustainability of the biosphere. We care and that’s what makes us different.
Kitchens which do the right thing
All Life Kitchens cabinets are manufactured in stainless steel or Zintec steel that has been treated with a layer of zinc coating to provide an extra level of protection, giving it a higher level of resistance against corrosion in a variety of situations and environments. The door fascia is also manufactured from other non-combustible materials such as steel, glass and Neolith stone to remove any fire risks associated with cooking in the kitchen. Life Kitchens believe the risks must be identified and managed at the source to minimise the chances of a fire starting and to limit the impact of such a fire should it occur. Kitchens available in the current domestic kitchen market continue to combust and be fuelled by materials that are highly flammable such as MDF, MFC, timber, chipboard, vinyl and all other materials commonly found within every fitted kitchen. Build-up of fats associated with cooking is common around and under units and surfaces and will also fuel a fire should one start.
Revolution not evolution
Jason Stead Managing Director, Life Kitchens, said: ‘The story began in June 2017, as I, like many other people sat and watched in horror as the devastating images on television showed the Grenfell Tower burning out of control, as the emergency services worked valiantly to control it. ‘Seventy-two people lost their lives that day, and it was the moment I realised that I could help by designing and manufacturing a “non-combustible kitchen” that would withstand electrical appliance failures and kitchen cooking accidents, not allowing the spread of fire, and that one day it could help save someone’s life.’ Adequate fire safety in apartments, tower blocks and purpose-built flats is vital to protect the lives and homes of all occupants.

Going back to go forward
Having initially gone back to the drawing board when designing their original non-combustible kitchen, the team at Life Kitchens now manufacture fully functional, solidly engineered, environmentally friendly, non-combustible kitchens. They now produce a ‘value engineered’ product, which has enabled them to keep costs competitive, and use state-of-the-art technology to produce the high level of precision required to achieve their goal. Everything from appliances to transport, their on-ground team work hard to give you peace of mind and your customers the most practical, luxurious and hard-wearing kitchens possible. Providing the whole package, they are confident enough to give you a lifetime guarantee.
Kitchens with attitude
Life Kitchens have a range of materials to work with, including temperature colour coated finishes, stainless steel, ionised toughened safety glass and neolith stone. They have also created their own unique pallet of colours and designs, drawing influence from art, culture, science and the automotive industry. They ‘dare to be different’ and produce kitchens with bold designs, taking inspiration from Banksy to the Beatles and Andy Warhol, providing finish options not previously available in the kitchen industry. Life Kitchens are rewriting the rule book when it comes to kitchens and are confident that they bring to the market a product not only safe and certified as a UK product but also to be proud of one we can honestly say is ‘Made in Britain’.
