Oshkosh Airport Products, LCC chose the Inter Airport Europe 2019 trade show in Munich to showcase the latest addition to their class-leading range of aviation rescue and firefighting vehicles – the all-new ‘ARV’ built on an all-wheel-drive commercial vehicle chassis.
The ARV features excellent automotive and operational performance, designed to meet or exceed the requirements of the relevant International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) specifications. The complete vehicle is designed and manufactured in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and AQAP 2110 for quality assurance.
The layout of the vehicle is designed to achieve a low centre of gravity and excellent stability. The bodywork design provides safe, unrestricted access to the crew compartment, working areas and storage lockers and is available on a wide range of all-wheel-drive commercial chassis, offering customers greater flexibility, shorter lead times and a global alternative to purpose-built derivatives.
The ARV incorporates all of the innovative features associated with the Oshkosh ARFF vehicle range, slotting in between the lighter Stinger and the class-leading purpose-built Striker. The ARV upholds the qualities associated with Oshkosh Airport Products and is backed up by the 24/7 global support of the Oshkosh Corporation and its world-class dealer network.
This prototype ARV makes use of the very latest class-leading 2.5m-wide Scania P500B all-wheel-drive chassis, featuring a low-emission Scania DC13 450bhp Euro-6 diesel engine, Allison automatic transmission and a spacious Scania safety cabin accommodating a driver plus two crew.
The clean-flowing aluminium body is configured with five usable equipment lockers and a rear-mounted pump bay, all enclosed by roller shutter doors. This specific variant has media tanks holding 10,000 litres of water and 1,000 litres of foam, plus 225kg of additional media. Other key features include pump ‘n’ roll, an automatic foam-proportioning system plus the latest IDEX Corporation roof mounted monitor and bumper turret combinations.
The ARV is available with a wide range of options to meet individual customers’ specific requirements including SCBA mountings, CCTV, flexible shelving solutions and a front-mounted electric winch.
Erik Lampe Vice President and General Manager of Oshkosh Products commented: ‘After gathering feedback and considering the needs of airport fire service departments around the world, we are thrilled to introduce a product that will exceed expectations with the reliable, robust and efficient features – the new Oshkosh ARV. This new ARFF vehicle is complementary to the Oshkosh Striker, backed by the global Oshkosh sales and service team, and held to our organisation’s quality, design and manufacturing standards.
‘Oshkosh ARFF products set a benchmark for performance in the industry, and we are committed to not only taking our airport rescue vehicle options and features a step further but also making them easily available on a global scale,’ Lampe said. ‘The new Oshkosh ARV is ideal for customers that want the value and performance of a commercial ARFF vehicle to meet ICAO requirements, with attributes including superior fire suppression, control, safety and versatility in maximising response.’
